Procedures

Above map shows a rough outline of the Kingston FIR drawn in red

  • The transition altitude (QNE) is FL180 which will be used for climbs and descents.
  • A Controller logging on should first man CTR, APP, TWR, or GND in that order.
  • TWR's airspace will be 5 NM up to and including 5000ft
  • APP's airspace will cover 30NM up to and including 12000ft. APP also controls departure. In the event of heavy traffic a DEP position can be opened and an appropriate frequency selected.
  • TWR, APP, & CTR controllers are to handoff aircraft prior to reaching the set boundaries to ensure the pilot has sufficient time to tune to the new frequency and make contact. This is especially important from APP to TWR. Nothing worst than a handoff that leaves the pilot one mile final to contact TWR for landing.
  • The word "Controller" does not mean that we have or exercise supreme control and authority over pilots.

We provide traffic separation, guidance and other navigational services to the pilot. The pilot has final authority in deciding whether or not to accept an ATC clearance especially if it will adversely affect the safety of passengers and the aircraft. It is therefore in everyone's best interest to make this a team effort for the success of all concerned. We will not tolerate one upmanship styles. We fully realize that we have real world pilots and controllers at all levels using the system and their knowledge and expertise is welcome in a constructive manner. We ask that such real world users be patient with non real world pilots and controllers and vise versa.

LETTER OF AGREEMENT
Here is a letter of Agreement between Kingston FIR, Cuba FIR and Miami ARTCC for co-ordination of airspace in the absence of available ATC. Letter

TRANSPONDER RANGE FOR KINGSTON FIR
Transponder range setting in ASRC for this FIR is 2000-2500. ASRC will automatically assign a number in that range for all traffic after pressing F9 <ACFT> . It is only necessary to assign a Transponder setting for enroute traffic where the "CODE" block shows on the data tag indicating there is a duplicate with another aircraft in range.Assign transponder settings for departures in the normal way. As a reminder Transponder settings 7500, 7600 and 7700 are for Hi Jack, Radio Failure and Emergency respectively

Now let's open the throttles and do some flying ........
